AniRank ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the AniRank mobile application.

By using AniRank, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following information when you create an account and use AniRank:

Account information: email address, username (display name)
User-generated content: anime ratings (1–5 stars), written reviews, watchlist entries
Usage data: which anime you view, rate, or add to your watchlist
Device preferences: selected avatar emoji (stored locally on your device)

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

Create and manage your AniRank account
Display your ratings, reviews, and watchlist within the app
Calculate community rankings (Top 100) based on aggregated user votes
Generate your Anime Personality based on your rating history
Display your Advanced Statistics (Premium feature)
Improve the app and fix bugs

3. Data Storage

Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase Firestore, a cloud database service provided by Google LLC. Firebase complies with GDPR and other applicable data protection regulations.

Your avatar preference is stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage and is never sent to our servers.

4. Third-Party Services

AniRank uses the following third-party services:

Firebase Authentication (Google LLC) — for account creation and login
Firebase Firestore (Google LLC) — for storing ratings, reviews, and watchlists
Jikan API (jikan.moe) — a free, public anime database API used to fetch anime information, images, and descriptions. No personal data is sent to Jikan.

These services have their own privacy policies which we encourage you to review.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties.

The following information is visible to other AniRank users:

Your username (display name)
Your public ratings and reviews (unless posted anonymously)
Your Anime Personality type

If you choose to post a review anonymously, your username will not be displayed alongside that review.

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time directly from the app (Profile → Delete Account), which permanently removes all your data from our servers including ratings, reviews, and watchlist entries.

7. Children's Privacy

AniRank is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

8. Security

We take the security of your data seriously. Your account is protected by Firebase Authentication, and all data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

9. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you
Delete your account and all associated data at any time
Update your username via your Firebase account

To exercise these rights, you can delete your account directly in the app or contact us at the email address below.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of AniRank after changes constitutes your acceptance of the new policy.
